Social Networking and the New Media

As I begin a new year of Media Literacy I think more and more about Media in the social networking arenas. Those of us who use Facebook see the prevalence of social marketing. If you have not seen it yet, checkout the ads on the side bar. You can choose the best type of ad to fit your needs! I sure hated those Zombie ads, so after clicking the thumbs down several times, I was finally rid of them and back to some ads I could mostly ignore!

Elementary Underage Drinking Media Literacy Project

We have now officially compelted the first dry run of the elementary unit teaching about media literacy and underage drinking in project-based learning format. This unit was spurred by several requests from teachers to have a unit available from elementary students. Based on some general internet research (see sources below) it appears that we need to move our efforts of educating elemntary kids about underage drinking and media literacy.

Call to Action!

As we progess in our teachings and learnings about creating media, one of the important things for us to remember is the call to acton aspect of the media. Most pieces of media includes a call to action, but really well created social marketing media always ends on a call to action. Check out this example from AdCouncil:
